Good food, good people.

Family dinner!

For all of you who have been worrying about my welfare -- thank you for your thousands of cards, e-mails, telegrams, phone calls and fruit baskets. I assure you, all is well! I suppose I should clarify a few things:

1. I did not actually receive thousands of of cards, etc. -- that may have been a little bit of an exaggeration. As I write this I did a quick tally to figure out how many things I did receive. If my count is correct it would seem that I received approximately zero. Hopefully you weren't too overcome by grief and concern.

2. Nothing has been wrong. A combination of out-of-town travel, family visiting, and an extremely busy time at work with some long days pretty much pushed writing on this blog to the back burner. Hey, that's kind of funny. "Back burner" -- cooking blog. Get it? Hahahaha!

3. I've still been cooking, just not new stuff and not writing about it. I've actually been cooking some of the things I've learned to cook just for fun and to make meals for us to eat. Nonetheless, when faced with the choice between writing or eating, it seems that eating won.

What has been fun the past few weeks was cooking things for family members who hadn't had a chance try my food before. Not only did they try it now but no one died, choked, or had any ill effects (that I am aware of)! It was also fun to enjoy food made by my kids. They must have been inspired by my blog!?! Well, that would presume that they have actually been reading my blog... Even if not, they still enjoy food!

I started off the visit with my son, daughter-in-law, and grandson by preparing some oeufs broulee. I even managed to make it without using a recipe! Nice to know that I've been able to master some of these complicated recipes such as scrambled eggs. We also enjoyed a wonderful family dinner that began with an appetizer prepared by my kids -- bacon wrapped jalapenos stuffed with cheese and shrimp! They might not have been French but they were reallllllllly good.

Along with their appetizer I managed to make Supremes de Volaille Archiduc (chicken breasts with paprika, onions, and cream) and Choux de Bruxelles a la Creme (brussels sprouts chopped and simmered in cream) and everything was done on time! Food is fun and tasty, but it is even more fun when shared with family members.

Yep, I'm glad I've been learning to cook a bit better and that I've been able to share some good food with my family. Now it is time for the adventure to resume! I see a bit of free time coming up and I'm looking forward to moving on to some new cooking adventures. Sooooo much to cook and so little time to do it in! I hope you'll continue with me on the adventure!

Bon appetit!
