I decided to write this just to 'fess up. Sometimes even the Culinator is in a hurry and needs to cook something for dinner but just doesn't have the time or energy to make something "fancy." That's why we have things like "Pommes a la Instant." In case your French isn't as good as mine, or is actually better, you might not know what that is (besides, I made it up anyway) -- Instant Mashed Potatoes!
Boil the water, add the potato flakes, some butter and some milk and in just a couple of minutes you have something closely resembling mashed potatoes! Remember, there's no shame in doing it this way. At the same time, making them this way is a good reminder that there is a taste and texture difference between mashed potatoes made from scratch with real potatoes as opposed to using dehydrated potatoes flakes, or whatever they are.
That's it. Simple. Easy. Just follow the directions on the box and voila! You have mashed potatoes you can serve with just about anything and enjoy eating while you think about the fancy dinner you're going to make in a day or two using fresh ingredients!
Bon Appetit!
